Offshore health, safety & the environment

Technical advisor to the Oil Industry International Exploration & Production Forum (now The International Association of Oil & Gas Producers – OGP) and secretary to expert working groups on offshore health, safety and environmental legislation; research into industrial accidents and pollution; author and editor of oil industry position papers and quarterly newsletters; oil industry representative at the International Maritime Organization (1979-1988). 

Designed a model system for comparing regional offshore accident data (described as "seminal" by the then Department of Energy Petroleum Engineering Division) as well as a statistical method for predicting pipeline damage and oil spillages. Represented the oil industry at the United States Geological Survey (Minerals Mining Service) on risk assessment (1984). 

And concurrently, technical advisor, from 1984-1987, to the International Petroleum Industry Environmental Conservation Association (IPIECA) on inter-governmental regulation of the petroleum industry; author and editor of the IPIECA newsletters; IT management.
